The Belem's 2009 sailing program is now on line ! The coming season will be offering a wide range of choices, from April 10th to September 24th, starting with the Mediterranean. For the first time, the Belem is making for the shores of North Africa where the Moroccan towns of Tangiers and Rabat are to be her ports of call during the month of May. From there, she is sailing the Atlantic to Porto in Portugal on her way to Brittany.
Another momentous episode will be her stay in Rochefort, south of La Rochelle towards the end of June. This charming town whose own story is intimately linked to France's maritime history has been, for the last few years, the home of a daring and fascinating project: rebuilding the exact replica of the Hermione, the ship on which La Fayette sailed for America to take part in the American War of Independence alongside General George Washington... So, what is supposed to be happening between the Belem and the Hermione? Stick to our monthly Logbook and you will be kept up to date with the latest developments...
Should you be in Britain around the end of August, why not take a quick trip to Portsmouth to come and greet the Belem? She will be staying a few days, meeting another grand old Dame of the Sea, HMS Warrior, before sailing back to France : take the opportunity to travel with her to Caen !
The sailing season ends with a Saint-Malo – Brest trip from September 24th to 26th and, here again, there will be memorable moments since everyone will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Belem's return to France after 55 years of sailing under British then Italian colours...
Another important information is that this years' bookings for sailing aboard the Belem are made easier and quicker: practically no more paperwork (which means lots of thankful trees!) since everything is done on line.
