Belem is in La Rochelle for a four-day stop over from October 13th to 17th: our three master will be acting as Committee ship for the Velux Five Oceans race that takes off on Sunday the 17th. As such, she will be hosting the skippers' briefing sessions and welcoming the journalists covering this nautical event at the invitation of the sponsors, the Velux Company.
Belem will also be open to public visits on Friday and saturdau- check exact schedule in La Rochelle's Bassin des Chalutiers where she is docked.
Then Belem will be off to Nantes for the last stop of her sailing season, from Sunday October 24th to Sunday 30th. Visitors will be welcomed aboard on the 24th in the afternoon, the 29th, the 30th and the 31st. This will be her second visit to Nantes this year, in keeping with the wishes of the Belem Foundation and the Nantes municipal authorities to maintain a regular presence of the ship in her home port.
If you happen to be round and about La Rochelle or Nantes on one of those days, Belem and her crew will be happy to welcome you for a visit. And while you're there, have a quick peek at the beautiful new bell hanging close to the forecastle near the kitchen quarters. This lovely object, a present of the Normandy Caisse d'Epargne, was crafted at one of the three bell foundries still operating in France, at Villedieu les Poêles, using centuries old methods and skills.
